Poet Society Reveal

studio calico poet society kits are here! i got my kits later this month so i didn't have as much time to play with the kits as i wanted to. lucky for me, the kits are awesome and i manage to put together the layouts rather quickly! i scrap really slow, so 1 layout per day is considered an achievement for me! :) here's what i made this month!

how about? some milk?
(main kit only)

love this patterned paper by love life paper! i wanted to use this pretty paper as a background paper so i applied some gesso over some areas to tone down the design. Love that the gesso is not too thick and dries up with a translucent effect. i decided on the placement for my photo and cut out a few cards from the 'one way ticket' paper and used one for my journaling and others for layering. then i cut out some diamonds and triangles from one of the patterned paper and arrange them around my photo. to finish off, i splattered some mr huey mist, added some sequins and also used my craft knife to cut a little heart on the paper so that the backing paper peeks through...

this is how we do it!
(main kit only)

i got the inspiration for this layout from one of the cards on 'one way ticket' paper - a paper plane flying, leaving a heart shaped trail behind it. i painted a white card stock with blue and green watercolors as the background. then i used vellum paper to fold a little origami plane and hand stitched a trail. after i decided on the placement for my photos, i added the rub ons around the photos. love how well the rub ons work with the watercolors. lastly, i wanted to add some journaling, but didn't know where will be a good place so i decided to write my journal on the card that i used to layer my photo. i used a sticker from the labels set and used it to create a flap so i can flip my photo and reveal the journaling behind it.

nothing is too wonderful to be true
(main kit, dickinson, alcott, whitman)

love the soft pastel colors of the crate paper tags and chipboard included in add on 1 - dickinson! i knew i wanted to use these to document one of my favourite wedding photos.  i used one of the heart shaped digital stamps and created a background filled with hearts using the silhouette studio. using my trusty silhouette cameo, i cut the design and i used the negative cut as a base for my page. i backed the hearts with some patterned paper and page came together quite easily with all the goodies i had! i started layering them around the photo and the page was almost done. i also love the phase 'nothing is too wonderful to be true' from one of shimelle's paper in add on 2 - alcott and used it as my title.

today is the day
(main kit, dickinson, alcott, whitman))

made this layout to document ethan's 3rd birthday. love the floral wreath digital stamp that kim steward designed this month so i trace the design in silhouette studio and made it into a cut file. i always cut the die cuts with white card stock so i can add color to them when required. for this layout, i painted the cuts with watercolors. when i was working on the layout, i tried to trim my photo into the shape of the wreath, as i thought of it as a frame, but it didn't look as good as i thought it will be. hence, i left the photos in its original size - 3 X 3 inch square and just place the wreath over the photo. i think this worked better as it creates more layers and i love how the photo peek behind the wreath. next i layered my photo with some tags, vellum and patterned paper. i added the title and scattered some clear gems around the photos according to the color of the wreaths. as i do not have any yellow gems in the kits, i use some yellow mist to create ink splatters instead. then i added some stickers, label and date stamp. lastly, i trim my card stock a bit smaller and select a matching paper to back my layout. love how this technique always adds more color and layer to my page!

i hope you enjoyed the layouts i made for this reveal! if you are interested in finding out more about studio calico's scrapbook kit, click here

Poet Society Sneaks and September Shopping Picks!

hi there! i'm here to share my sneaks for studio calico september kits - poet society

subscriber's reveal is in less than 24 hours! as usual, i had lots of fun playing with the kits. i had the privilege to work with the scrapbook kit and 3 add ons - dickinson, alcott and whitman. my favourite add on this month has to be add on 1 - dickinson ! it's filled to the brim with pretty goodies like the chipboard and tags from crate paper and the huge gold alpha! love all the sweet pastel colors and gold in this add on!

also, check out for the digital stamp brushes in the shop now! they are amazing! i used a couple of them as cut files!

here's a peek at what i made...

this is a main kit only layout. this is my favourite patterned paper this month. i painted it with some gesso to tone it down so i could use it as a background paper.

this is also a main kit only layout. i played with some watercolors, rub ons, stitching and origami!

i used a mix of the main kit, add on 1, add on 2 and add on 3 here! love love love the pretty chipboards and tags in add on 1 - dickinson! this month, the die cuts i used are actually digital stamp brushes. i traced them in silhouette studio and cut them using my silhouette cameo. i used the heart shaped digital stamp brush in this set to create a background and you can find the pretty leaves can be found here.

i used a mix of everything for this last sneak. these pretty floral wreath die cuts are also digital stamp brushes. i cut them out and colored them with some watercolors. you can find them here!

bundling is about to start so i picked out some of my favourites this month to help fill up your cart! :)

1. tiny attacher - my favourite tool to hold things together. great for adding some tiny details to my layout.

2. gesso - i used this to tone down complicated patterned papers so i can use them as backgrounds. love that it dries with a translucent effect.

3. more white - i love working with white card stock as my background so i stock up lots of this from the shop! this is what i use to cut my die cuts too.

4. mr huey watercolors - i used this on 2 of my layouts this month. love the colors, easy to use and great for adding colors to my layout. love the price too!

5. silhouette cameo - this is one of my earliest and best investment when i started scrapbooking. the capability of this small machine still amazes me everytime i cut something. adds beautiful intricate designs to my work!

6. poet society pl digital stamp brushes - if you love designs by kim steward, you shouldn't miss out on this set! the designs look lovely when i cut them out too!
